Engineering Careers

Consumers' Co-operative Refineries Limited (CCRL) seeks outstanding Engineers who have exceptional characteristics and are interested in a career in the field of petroleum refining or heavy oil upgrading operations. CCRL offers Engineering positions with the potential to move to a more senior Engineering level and/or the supervisory and management level.

Engineering Careers

Unit Operations Engineer

Unit Operations Engineers are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of their assigned process units. Areas of responsibility include: optimizing unit operations to meet production plan requirements, cost reduction and savings improvement items, and product quality and effective yield accounting. 

Process Engineer

Process Engineers are responsible for preliminary and detailed process design of Refinery-Upgrader projects. This includes providing technical support to, and a monitoring function for, Unit Operations Engineers to assist them in accessing the overall performance and condition of their assigned units.

Process Control Engineer

Process Control Engineers are responsible for maintaining and updating the hardware and software components of the process control systems to allow for effective control of the operations. Activities include: research, optimization, troubleshooting, documentation, programming, and providing technical information related to process control systems and their configuration.

Planning Engineer

Planning Engineers are responsible for the short and long-term planning of the Refinery-Upgrader Complex to produce petroleum products as required by marketing departments. This includes using various computer operations (e.g., linear programs) to plan daily operations and carry out economic studies of alternate operating possibilities.

Plant/Maintenance Engineer

Plant and Maintenance Engineers are responsible for developing the detailed design of projects including:  writing specifications, sizing major equipment, and doing layouts, as well as issuing construction work packages, evaluating bids, and supervising the construction and final inspection of the completed work. The maintenance function includes: determining the cause and mode of failures, re-design/modification of existing equipment, and monitoring of predictive/preventative maintenance systems to increase reliability and life of mechanical equipment.

Electrical/Instrumentation Engineer

Electrical/Instrumentation Engineers provide technical supervision and support for project work dealing with process control, instrumentation systems, programmable logic controllers, analytical equipment and electrical power systems.

Environmental Engineer

Environmental Engineers are responsible for developing and maintaining effective programs in order to comply with the environmental regulations under which the Complex operates. This includes: collecting and analyzing operating data, monitoring and reporting, and preparing recommendations for changes to our existing procedures and facilities.

 

Technical, Administrative, and Trade Careers

Consumers' Co-operative Refineries Limited (CCRL) seeks outstanding individuals with technical, trades, information services, or administration backgrounds. CCRL offers entry-level positions with the potential to move to the supervisory and management level.

Process Operator

Process Operators are responsible for the safe and effective operation of their assigned Refinery and Upgrader process units. This includes: controlling temperatures, pressures, product quality, and the safe operation of process equipment such as pumps, compressors and fired heaters.  Qualifications include the completion of Grade XII including Chemistry 30, Physics 30, and Algebra/Math 30.  A 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate and/or a SIAST Process Operator Certificate or equivalent is desirable.

Labourer

Labourers are responsible for carrying out a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks that support the overall operation of the Refinery-Upgrader Complex. Qualifications include the completion of Grade XII including Chemistry 30, Physics 30, and Algebra/Math 30.

Laboratory Technician

Laboratory Technicians are responsible for performing quality control testing using modern laboratory instrumentation. Qualifications include a Chemical Technology Certificate (or equivalent) or B.Sc. in Chemistry.

Office Clerk

Office Clerks are responsible for accounting, word processing, mailroom and receptionist duties, and general office activities. Qualifications include the completion of Grade XII plus a business course (bookkeeping) or equivalent.

Programmer Analyst

Programmer Analysts are responsible for creating and maintaining computer programs as well as maintaining the equipment used in various applications within the Refinery-Upgrader Complex. This includes both mainframe and PC-based applications. Qualifications include the completion of a two or three-year course in computer programming from a recognized technical or vocational institute.

Trades

Various positions exist in Mechanics, Welding, Instrumentation, Electrical, Equipment Mechanics/Pipefitting, Crane Operation, Insulators, Building Maintenance, and Fire and Safety. Qualifications include the completion of Grade XII including Chemistry 30, Physics 30, and Algebra/Math 30. Depending on the position, a journeyperson certificate may be required.
